Atiq Rahimi Writer, Afghanistan/France
Atiq Rahimi is an author and film director. He was born in Afghanistan and then fled to France to escape the Soviet coup. He currently lives in Paris. He has made a name as a writer, film and documentary maker in France. He directed the film adaptation of his first novel Earth and Ashes, which was released in 2005, to great acclaim. He directed another adaptation, namely of his novel from 2008, Syngue Sabour (The Patience Stone) that won the prestigious French literary prize, Prix Goncourt. It won 12 awards and was selected in 20 film festivals. All of his books are translated in 33 countries.
