While heroes transforming the world have taken the center stage in existing narratives, today’s narrative focus is on the empowerment of ordinary people—the petit bourgeois. Liu Zhenyun, an award-winning writer from China, and Song Sokze, a Korean novelist praised for his sharp satire and humor, will present the strength of the petit bourgeois evident in their works.


  • Liu Zhenyun Writer, China
    Liu Zhenyun is a Chinese writer of many bestselling novels and one of the most famous and award-winning writers in contemporary China. Among his books of novel are Cell Phone, Someone to Talk To and I Did Not Kill My Husband. Throughout the years, Liu’s works have been translated into English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and other languages. Liu has been awarded with many prestigious prizes at home and abroad, like the highest Chinese literary award Mao Dun Literature Awards (2011) and Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (2018) from the Minister of Culture of France.
  • Song Sokze Writer, Korea
    Born in Sangju in Gyeongsang Province, he started writing novels after publishing his short story collection, Absurdities Live There. His short story collections include Thus Spoke Hwang Man Geun, Songs that Mother Played for Me, and Muiri-do uiri-do eopsi. His novels include Fugitive Yi Chi-do, Human Strength, The One Love, Pomp and Circumstance, and Invisible Man. His essay collections include While Dancing Merrily, Picnic, A Camera that Jokes, and Sword and Rapture. Recently, Song published Where are You Going, Mr. Fish?, a travel essay collection, as well as The King is Doing Fine, a new novel. Song is the recipient of literary prizes including the Korea Daily Literature Award, Dong-seo Literary Award, Lee Hyo-seok Literary Award, Dong-in Literary Award, Hyundae Literary Award, Oh Yeong-su Literary Award, and Yosan Literary Award.
