Tian Yuan is a poet and doctor of Japanese Literature. Tian is currently a professor at Josai International University, Japan. He has published five volumes of poetry including Selected Poems of Tian Yuan (2007) and has received awards in Chinese poetry in Taiwan, China, and the US. In 2001 Tian became the first recipient of Japan’s Foreign Student Literary Award for three modern poems written in Japanese. His poetry collections And So the Shore Was Born (2004) and The Memory of Stone (2009) were published in Japan in Japanese, with The Memory of Stone winning the prestigious H Award, a Japanese poetry prize, in 2010. He won the Shanghai Literature Award in 2013.
