[One on One] What’s Seen—and What’s Seen Beyond

Flipping open a book is not like opening a window out to a landscape but like transforming an existence. That is how children read books. Try crawling around inside a book you had been walking around until now. Become a scarab beetle, become a firecracker, crouch down between the sheets of paper and listen for the vibrations. Savor the thickness of an endlessly unfolding story. Read like a toad. Swim around in the muck of sorrows in a book. Poke your finger in a hole in the book like a child would. When the pages flutter open like flower blossoms announcing spring, fly inside them. During this conversation, we will enjoy the magic of picture books, a magic that is more visible, more audible, and more tangible than meets the eye. Two of the magicians behind that magic will be awaiting you. Make yourself as soft and squishy as a child and—go on now—lie down inside a book. • Language: Korean, French
