[One on One] (More Vibe Than) Meets the Eye
In communicating, ‘you’ and ‘I’ form a ‘we’ shaped by words, sounds, expressions, gestures, and sometimes by silence and avoidance. Literature is shaped through language, but it shapeshifts from words into not-words, from sound into silence, disappearing and reappearing. Language is what creates human sensations, reasons, memory, culture, and history. As humans eat, bear, see and write, language transforms linking ‘you’ and ‘me’ to create a new ‘us.’ Within the conditions of language, how are ‘your’ and ‘my’ memories conveyed to each other, and how do they face this unfamiliar ‘us’ each day? In this text-hip era where we experience the avant-garde of our time as we share in the activity of reading through images or video, these two poets are always seeking new ways to meet their readers rather than adhering to tradition. You are hereby invited into this conversation between Yumi Fuzuki and Jang I-ji. • Language: Korean, Janpanese
